The Joy of Painting (FV1)
The Joy of Painting is an FV1 based DSP pedal kit. It produces endless happy little accidents at its various different settings, especially when you active the happy little accident mode!
At its heart we have a pitch-shifting, modulating, harmonizing, time-warping circuit that not only alters pitch, but also gives you the power to transform those pitch modulations using time-based controls.
The effect can be as radical and extreme as you want but it can also be subtle, tasteful, and highly effective in low-key applications where it can add unexpected and delicious textures to chords and simple leads and hooks.
There’s no greater circuit to name after my Art Muse, Mr Bob Ross. If he were still with us, and played guitar, he would have this one and this is what I think he would say. It is the minor imperfections that make something beautiful, that's what makes it different and unique from everything else. I can't think of anything more rewarding than being able to express yourself to others through painting. Exercising the imagination, experimenting with talents, being creative; these things, to me, are truly the windows to your soul. ~ Bob Ross. Even though they are straight lifts from quotes from the great man himself, they fit this pedal perfectly. Its enormous range of unique, practical, and downright bonkers sounds within the could wear out even the most tireless knob tweaker.
This wealth of sounds makes it an ideal studio tool that can transform hooks and solos from ordinary to arresting. Couple this with an expression pedal via the extra socket, and… Bobs your uncle.
Build wise, you have a surface mounted FV1 chip, which is not only tricky to solder but a very pricey part. Surface mount soldering is not impossible, but not for the feint hearted or beginner. Therefore we offer a limited pre soldering service here. I highly recommend this if you are unfamiliar with surface mount soldering. The rest of the kit is relatively simple. It uses a range of standard through hole components, our awesome DIY friendly PCB design, highly detailed build PDF and we have our leading support forum.
The hardest part with this pedal will be learning how to use it. Its fair to say, it’s a tweeker. You wont plug it in and think WOW, well you might, but you were lucky. This is a pedal you need to take time with, get to know him and learn to play it properly. Its practically an instrument in itself.
The best part is…There are no mistakes with this one, just happy little accidents, trickling away from your fingers and out of your amp.
When complete, the project is everything you could wish for in a top quality modulation pedal. It provides excellent ambience. Its feature packed, versatile and enhances whatever you feed into it and adds various different tonal flavours to your mix.
The board is spaced for PCB mounted toggles and pots. It fits in one of our JP1590BB cases.
