completed circuit board for an FV1 based DSP DIY guitar effects pedal

The Joy of Painting (FV1)

The Joy of Painting is an FV-1 based DSP pedal kit that creates endless happy little accidents! At its core, it’s a pitch-shifting, modulating, harmonizing, time-warping effect that can be subtle and musical or wild and experimental. Perfect for adding unique textures to chords, leads, and hooks.

Named after Bob Ross, this pedal embodies his philosophy—imperfections make things beautiful. With a vast range of sounds, an expression pedal input, and deep tweakability, it’s a studio essential.

Build Details: The kit includes an SMT FV-1 chip, tricky to solder, so we offer a pre-soldering service. The rest is standard through-hole components, a DIY-friendly PCB, and detailed build support.

Mastering this pedal takes time—it’s practically an instrument! But once you do, there are no mistakes, just happy little accidents.

The effect can be as radical and extreme as you want but it can also be subtle, tasteful, and highly effective in low-key applications where it can add unexpected and delicious textures to chords and simple leads and hooks.

The board is spaced for PCB mounted toggles and pots. It fits in one of our JP1590BB cases.
